Characteristics
The Menace strain is characterized by its arresting appearance, featuring deep caramel-colored caps with a prominent central elevation and thick, resilient stems. This variety is known for its robust growth and prolific fruiting, producing medium to large-sized mushrooms that mesmerize the senses. The Menace strain is celebrated for its potency, delivering an intense and mystical journey that invites psychonauts to confront their fears, embrace their power, and explore the hidden realms of their consciousness.
Menace mushroom specs
Menace mushroom caps have caps that reach 20-50mm wide with a wavy/pleated perimeter and red or cinnamon brown colors (changing to golden brown/light yellow when mature). The average height for this strain is 150mm. In addition, some subvariants of Menace display the peculiar tendency to have a hubcap-like appearance in later flushes (due to the wavy patterning on the edge of the cap).
The original batch was nothing like the Menace variety circulating in 2022. But, such is the case with many strains, even legendary types like Penis Envy (which started in the Amazon as a standard-looking mushroom, only mutating after many generations of cultivation).
Menace Mushroom: Monikers and their Meanings
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” – Juliet
People like to name stuff; it’s human nature. Beyond children, pets, and plants, many of us like to give names to inanimate objects like cars or stuffed animals. Naming helps us establish order in the world around us by assisting us in differentiation between objects. And the unwritten rule is that when a scientist discovers/describes a new species, they are granted the honor of naming it.
The name for Menace ‘shrooms of course, comes from the person’s username ‘P. Menace,’ but the name is misleading nonetheless. The definition of menace is:
“A person or thing that is likely to cause harm; a threat or danger.”
And as many of us know/are learning, Psilocybe mushrooms have been used for thousands of years (perhaps tens of thousands or more) with zero associated deaths – magic mushrooms are safer than aspirin.
The Phantom Menace: Star Wars and Mushrooms
Star Wars is rich with mushroom lore, in case you didn’t know. Anakin Skywalker was told that his mother (Shmi Skywalker Lars) was abducted by Tuskan Raiders while out picking Vaporator mushrooms that grew on moisture evaporators.
Many of us remember the less-than-warm welcome given to Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace in 1999; criticism was heavy on this prequel for diverting from the formula used in the original trilogy and leaning too much on CGI.
Fast forward to 2022, and The Phantom Menace holds a place of high esteem in many Star Wars nerds’ hearts; this is likely due to how utterly bad Disney did with the newest trilogy. Maybe Menace mushrooms will end up with a similar fate, being rather unknown today, but twenty years later, they could be a wildly famous strain. Best to stock up on Menace spore syringes now before the word is out and everyone jumps on the bandwagon.
That way, you can one day tell your kids how you were one of the original Menace mushroom fans and appear extra cool in their eyes.
