What makes Pink Buffalo so special?

Pink Buffalo is a higher-than-average potency Psilocybe species and boasts rapid colonization rates, eye-catching rhizomorphic growth patterns, large and thick fruiting bodies, and a veil that remains attached to the cap even in maturity (similar to the notorious Penis Envy cubensis mushrooms).

However, it’s good to keep in mind that there are many variables between cubensis specimens that exist regardless of strain or genetics, such as:

• Moisture
• Oxygen
• Substrate Particle Size
• Nutrients
• Air Exchange
• Sterilization
• CO2 Level
• Light
• Humidity
• Temperature

With that being said, genetics do play a significant role in the potency and effects of any given cubensis mushroom. Additionally, if someone feels an emotional connection to a certain geographical region of the world (like Southeast Asia, for example) for whatever reason, they may be more receptive to the experience offered by a strain from that very region. 

Alternatively, nomenclature can play a significant role. Perhaps for someone of Native American heritage, simply having the word ‘buffalo’ in the name can impart a tendency to like this strain more than another. Although, we encourage researching various cubensis strains to get hands-on experience with this topic and come to your own conclusions.

Pink Buffalo – Specifications

The cream-colored caps are large for a cubensis, 25-75mm wide, and the stems are as long as 175mm. You’ll know you have the authentic Pink Buffalo spore syringes when the cap has a gelatinous texture and is a bit squishy to the touch. 

How to Dry Pink Buffalo Mushrooms (or other cubensis)

If you’ve purchased Psilocybin mushrooms, you most likely received a plastic baggie of dried mushroom stems and caps that could snap like a dry stick. This is the opposite of a meaty portobello, porcini, chanterelle, or button mushroom purchased from the local grocery store or farmer’s market which still retains its moisture.

You’ll want to make sure and dry mushrooms immediately after they are picked (or as soon as you get home from wild-foraging). If there is moisture left in the fruiting body for too long, it can cause unwanted decomposition and fermentation, ultimately leading to a spoiled specimen. 

A dehydrator is the most common way to dry mushrooms like Pink Buffalo – but they work for any and all mushroom drying needs. The best kind is the square box/round type with numerous stackable trays. Simply lie the mushrooms on the mats, and set to dry. Once the fruiting bodies are crackly dry and could snap if bent, they are done. Overdrying is the most common mistake with dehydrators – if mushrooms are left on a dry cycle for too long, there could be a substantial reduction in alkaloid content, even rendering them completely inert in some instances. 

While a dehydrator is by far the fastest and easiest way to dry mushrooms, other techniques can be found online like the Poor Man’s Tek and the Sushi Mat System.
